{"id":2612,"date":"2022-06-20T10:59:30","date_gmt":"2022-06-20T07:59:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oinousses-municipality.gr\/?page_id=2612"},"modified":"2022-07-06T15:35:51","modified_gmt":"2022-07-06T12:35:51","slug":"our-municipality","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.oinousses-municipality.gr\/en\/our-municipality\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Municipality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oinousses is a complex of islands located in Northern East Aegean between Chios and Minor Asia, 9 nautical miles from the Hora of Chios and 4 from the Minor Asian shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;The complex has been called Oinousses since the ancient times, it is encountered in written historical documents since the 6<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century BC and it means \u201cland full of wine\u201d. Indeed, up until mid 20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century the island had a booming small scale wine production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many centuries there is no historical reference to the islands and the name until 1521, when the island re -appears in Ottomandocuments bearing the names \u00abQoyun Adasi\u00bb and \u00abQoyun Adalari\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">References to the islands become more frequent following the 17<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century. Oinousses appear under the name \u201cSpalmadori\u201d that will become dominant in foreign documents until the 19<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;century. Also, in some maps and travellers texts we find the names \u00abAgunto\u00bb, \u00abHippyIsles\u00bb and \u00abOenuses\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nowadays, we use again officially the name \u201cOinousses\u201d, while \u201cAignousa\u201dor \u201cEgnousa\u201d &nbsp;is also a second way of calling the main island.
